Bite Diseases Therapy

What is bite disease?

Bite disease is when there is a conflict between the muscles that control the jaw joint and the muscles that control chewing. The role of the muscles that control the jaw joint is to keep that joint in its socket. The purpose of the muscles that control chewing is to get your teeth together during chewing so that you can eat.

When joint muscles, chewing muscles, and teeth are not in harmony, destructive forces result in breakdown of the mouth, headaches, and/or neck and shoulder pain.

How do you know when you have bite disease?

There are many signs and symptoms of which you may have one, two or more of them. The following is a list of common signs that you or your dentist may look for.

Teeth: broken back teeth, cracks in teeth, worn teeth, unexplained pain in teeth, loose teeth, notches in teeth along the gum line and/or many gum line fillings, receding gums, bleeding gums.

Jaw: bone growth on inside and/or outside of jaw, limited side movement of jaw, clinching or grinding of your teeth.

Head: frequent headaches, recurring ear pain or ringing and doctor finds nothing wrong, sinus headaches without usual symptoms.

Jaw joint: popping or clicking of jaw, pain on opening, locking of jaw, limited opening, unable to stay open very long, chiropractic adjustments that do not hold.

Muscles: cramping of facial and/or chewing muscles, wake up with aches in your jaw, neck or head.

Neck and shoulders: recurring pain in neck or back, chiropractic adjustments that do not hold.

The basic question you must ask yourself is: Is your mouth healthier today than it was five years ago? If your answer is “Yes” than you are doing great. If the answer is “No” then you need to seek treatment. The good news is that you can stop the destruction and regain a lifetime of better health.
